Adventures in Gardening - Chapter 3 - Planting

Wow, what a busy day!  We were out for about 3 or 4 hours today trying to get things for our garden.  Then we came home and worked in the garden for a few hours.  We are a little behind on getting the broccoli and potatoes in the ground, so hopefully they will still turn out ok.  We got the broccoli planted today and we will probably plant the potatoes early next week.  Hubby got some education on planting potatoes on youtube this morning and saw that you are supposed to cut the potatoes and let them scar before putting them in the ground, so we have to wait to get them planted.  We just bought them and Hubby cut them tonight.

Anyways, here are some pictures from our day.  Baby Girl was napping, so she didn't get in on the action.  She did come out later and "helped" me plant marigolds around the edge of the garden.  We were told and also read how marigolds help keep certain bugs out of the garden, I think because of the smell.  I joked with Hubby that if the vegetables don't turn out, at least it will look pretty with the flowers along the edge. :-)  I didn't get a picture with the marigolds because my hands were pretty dirty by that point.

  1. Looks like everyone had a fun day outside planting. You must be very happy with your accomplishments thus far. How nice it will be for you to have fresh veggies. You all did a good job out there, you and your little helpers. Looking forward to seeing more pictures later on. Love to all.

  2. That is so wonderful that you are doing the garden as a family project! Great pictures showing the progress! I'm sure when Baby Girl came out to help that she had a big time, too.
