Potty Training Joys & Baby Gurgles

Baby Girl has taken a real interest in potty training, especially this week.  She asks to sit on the potty a lot, but often doesn't do anything (because she's already done something in her diaper).  This week though, she has actually gone on the potty a few times.  I did learn an important lesson though.  Don't forget about her when she's on the potty.  I did that yesterday because I was cleaning up after breakfast and she wanted to use the potty, so I told her to go ahead and use the downstairs potty and I'd come in there in a little bit.  A few minutes later I hear her calling me from upstairs, "Mommy, poo-poo on floor."  Not exactly what I wanted to hear.  I hadn't planned on cleaning the carpet yesterday. :-)

Baby Boy is making a new sound.  It kind of sounds like a gurgle.  He's rolling around a lot now and loves to grab things.  He's always trying to reach and grasp for whatever he can see in front of him.  He especially likes to grab his sisters' hair when they're laying down beside him.  Oh, I can tell we are going to have some fun times ahead!

Big Girl has almost finished her school year - just 5 more days!  I don't really know what grade to call it.  She did kindergarten math, but everything else was 1st grade. Starting in August we are going to use Sonlight for a lot of her subjects.  The grade range is K-2, and we'll be doing 2nd grade grammar /language arts reading and 1st grade math.  So she'll be in a mix of 1st-2nd grade.  I'm ready for the break (we'll be off all of July), but am also excited about starting a new school year.

Little Girl has been doing pretty good with her phonics and sight words. Sometimes it's hard to get her to sit down and work on it though.  She loves to color, draw, cut, and play with her princess dolls!  It's hard to pull her away from that.

The garden is doing ok.  We are almost done harvesting broccoli and we are currently harvesting green beans, much to the delight of Little Girl who could make a meal out of just green beans.  We had an infestation of Mexican bean beetles which have been eating the leaves.  We sprinkled some diatomaceous earth on the plants and that has really helped, but we may have waited a little too late. Time will tell.  We have some green tomatoes that have not yet ripened.  The cucumber plants are growing, but no signs of cucumbers yet.  And hopefully around mid July we will be harvesting potatoes.

Here are a few pictures from the past week or so...

can you sleep standing up?
Notice the green grape tomatoes?  Baby Girl decided to help in the garden and she picked these while Hubby and I picked green beans this past weekend.  Thankfully I caught her before she picked them all.  She really does try to help, all the time!
he has found his toes
our little model - she loves to get her picture taken
This is the life!  He often falls asleep in his car seat.

Cute video of our little guy and his sweet noises. Girls beware, it really hurts sometimes when the hair gets pulled.
